Parley P. Pratt's Home
Our family had an awesome miracle on Friday. We are descendants of a man named Parley P. Pratt, one of the first LDS converts back in the 1830s. At the time he lived in Nauvoo, he was one of the 12 apostles for the church. After the saints left Nauvoo for the west, his home eventually came into the possession of the Catholic church. Today they use it as an office building. Since the 60s, my grandmother (one of his 2nd great granddaughters) has been trying to get a tour of the home, but they never let anyone in for tours.
This year, my grandparents are missionaries in Nauvoo, and they were asked to help the Catholic church do a week-long Vacation Bible School for children that attend the church there. My grandparents were able to go into the home and talk with them about our connection to Parley P. Pratt. As a result of them serving the Catholic priests with VBS, they agreed to let our whole family have a tour of the home during our family reunion.
The home has been changed over the years, but even though it isn't exactly the way it was when Parley P. Pratt lived there, we all felt closer to our ancestor as we entered the home and walked around. I'm so grateful for my ancestors who followed a prophet and who sacrificed lives of ease for the Gospel. I'm grateful for good people today, like the Priest who allowed us into the home.
