Trust Him
A few months ago I was at a friends house getting ready for bed. Some people were watching a movie, so it was a little too loud to think while saying my nightly prayer. I decided to experiment and see if I could pray while listening to a church song on my iPod It really doesn't work. I couldn't focus on praying. But I did kneel there and listen to the whole song "Consider the Lilies" sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. As I listened I felt inspired to make an arrangement of this song for the piano. But I'm the first one to tell you that I'm not a creative person and that I didn't know where to start. I had so many miracles on my mission related to creativity though, that I've learned that if Heavenly Father needs me to be creative to bless the lives of others, he can inspire me in creative ways. So, I started the song and didn't get very far until I decided it would take years. Then, I was asked to play a song in church for Easter about two weeks before Easter and felt I should finish the song. I played it on Easter Sunday, but didn't feel that it had really inspired anybody.
That night I played it for my family, and my mom mentioned that this song was the favorite of my sister-in-law (Meghan)'s mom. Judy Bass passed away at the very beginning of my mission, and this song was sung at her funeral. I felt maybe I had been prompted to write this song for Meghan. Last week was her birthday, so I recorded the song (not very professionally) onto my computer and burned it to a cd for her. The experience writing this song has been a miracle for me, and a process that has taught me more about spiritual gifts (Sunday School lesson yesterday!). The lyrics itself carried me through my mission and the last 6 months. I came home from my mission exactly 6 months ago, today, and I know I would be completely lost if it weren't for my Savior, Jesus Christ and His healing power.
"Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow, how they grow."
"Consider the birds in the sky,
How they fly, how they fly.
He clothes the lilies of the field.
He feeds the birds in the sky.
And he will feed those who trust him,
And guide them with His eye."
"Consider the sheep of his fold,
How they follow where he leads.
Though the path may wind across the mountains,
He knows the meadows where they feed."
"He clothes the lilies of the field.
He feeds the birds in the sky,
And he will feed those who trust him,
And guide them with his eye."
"Consider the sweet, tender children
Who must suffer on this earth..."
The pains of all of them he carried
From the day of his birth.
He clothes the lilies of the field,
He feeds the lambs in His fold,
And he will heal those who trust him,
And make their hearts as gold."

Here's a video I just put together with my song in the background and the lyrics below (I may have broken all kinds of copy writing laws putting this together...oops!) And you can read the miracle story of how the author of these lyrics wrote this song HERE.

...and yes - it has taken me this long to watch the video segment because I always forget when I am at home :(
