Heather's Fall

My sister is my bestie. I miss this girl everyday now that she's in Utah.

Last Friday, she was hiking in a slot canyon with a BYU class, when she slipped and fell off the ledge and broke her right leg (tibia and fibula) on the way down - a compound fracture. Hours later, she was able to get to a hospital and had surgery the next day. Our family has noticed miracles in this situation, and I hope Heather writes these down somewhere so she doesn't forget! But if she doesn't, here they are:

-It had recently rained, so she fell into water that was deep enough for her to tread and until they could get her out.
-(how she was able to tread water with a broken leg, not a clue)
-Her class found warm rocks to put on her because she was freezing from the water and had gone into shock.
-Her leg did not get hurt any worse as her class put her on a stretcher and carried her out of the canyon (at some times it was so steep Heather was almost vertical) and then as she was carried on an ATV for over an hour.
-Priesthood holders in her class gave her a blessing.
-A class member is her ward clerk and called the Bishop to notify him.
-The surgeon was her Bishop's neighbor.
-Her Bishop met her at the hospital and stayed many hours with her.
-My grandparents who have been road-tripping all over the west coast and went on an Alaskan cruise were traveling back home to South Carolina. They decided to stop in Utah on the drive home, and got to Utah the same day as the accident. My grandfather was able to give Heather another blessing (with our cousin Collin) before the surgery, and my grandmother stayed a few nights with Heather.
-friends and family reached out through fasting and prayer, sending flowers, and visiting Heather in the hospital.
-Heather had very little pain, barely cried, and has amazing determination. Through this whole experience, she's smiled and laughed and put the rest of the family at ease.

It'll take a long time for her leg to fully recover, and she has a metal rod in her leg for the rest of her life - but she's stayed positive and is a role model to me!

That is such a miracle. And such a crazy thing that happened! Glad she is okay and all is well!
