six et sept
#6 is from my lovely roommate Sherylin.
First, a little background. Sherylin recently started working at Deseret Book. At Deseret Book they have a membership program, and the store's goal is that 20-ish customers renew their membership a day-which is known as "platinum." Usually, Sherylin gets 1-2 platinum's a day. Well, a few days ago, she had a migraine and called in sick to work. They told her she had to find a substitute or come in. She couldn't find anyone, so she ended up coming in to work not feeling well. She worked a long day, and by the end had gotten 3 platinum's! That was a record for her, and it happened on a day she was sick.
A friend on my mission told me that the storm comes before the miracle - and that statement was verified by Sherylin's experience.
#7 is from a friend of my sister's named Nathan. He's on his mission in Chile right now - at the missionary training center there. In the training center, they learn teaching skills and practice teaching about the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their teachers. The teachers pretend to be actual people that they taught from their own missions. This is an excerpt from the email he sent out this week:
"Lessons were pretty good this week, we didn't teach as many though. There were various things going on that limited the lessons. We did have some amazing lessons though! My testimony of personal revelation has increased immensely since being here. Even though these aren't real investigators, the revelation for them is real. One teacher was so surprised about how our whole district shared the same scripture with the investigator which was the same scripture she had shared with the real investigator on her mission. It's just incredible!"
I think the coolest lesson learned from that experience, and from missionary work in general, is not so much that amazing lessons can happen, but that you can rely on the Lord to tell you what you need to know. Now all of these missionaries will leave the training center less worried about teaching real investigators because their trust in personal revelation has grown.
